Sunrise Granola Recipe

Homemade granola can be a healthy and comforting ~ thank goodness because it is one of my favorite things to eat. :) Most of the store-bought stuff is high in sugar and it is often packed full of fillers and unnecessary ingredients. Making your own at home is super easy and quick; best of all it allows you to control ingredients and change things up by adding in the flavors that you love.

It also makes your house smell amazing <3

A few tips & suggestions:

I always add nuts and seeds to my granola recipes for flavor, texture, and added healthy protein. A small amount of unsweetened dried fruit is great too, just make sure it’s unsweetened to keep the sugar content down.

I also like to use coconut oil because it’s full of nutrients and adds a really nice light flavor to the granola, but you can use any healthy oil you like the taste of. Oils high in omega-3 fats, life flaxseed oil, are extremely good for you but won’t work well for garnola making ~ they’re meant to be consumed raw and go rancid when heated.

The recipe below makes about three cups of granola – ½ cup is typically a serving. These measurements are flexible; don’t worry too much about being exact.

What you will need:

2 cups whole rolled oats (aka old fashion oats)
½ cup raw nuts, chopped
¼ cup raw seeds (sunflower or pumpkin seeds are fantastic)
½ cup unsweetened dried fruit, chopped
2-3 tablespoons honey
2 tbsp coconut oil or other healthy cooking oil
 1 pinch sea salt

To get from A to B

Preheat the oven to 300º F.
Combine all ingredients in a mixing bowl, use your hands to mix well, and toss to coat; it will be sticky and messy but that’s sort of fun.
Spread the granola in a thin layer on a baking sheet and bake for 10 minutes

Granola can be kept in tupperware for up to 2 weeks. I keep mine in a mason jar in the refrigerator. Enjoy!
